PRINCE GEORGE — Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 694 new cases of COVID-19 in British Columbia today, including 23 in Northern Health.

She says there are 9,103 active cases with 325 people hospitalized – 80 of whom are in intensive care units.

Thirty-three people are hospitalized in Northern Health – 11 of whom are in critical care.

Sadly, 12 additional deaths for a provincial death toll of 481. The death toll in Northern Health remains at eight.

In addition to that, there have been two precautionary COVID-19 outbreaks at University Hospital of Northern BC and at Gateway Lodge.

“Our focus with COVID-19 is to understand the risks: where, how and with whom transmission is occurring, and based on this information, put measures in place to protect everyone in the province,” says Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

“As vaccines become available, they will be our first step to protect people from severe illness and death. But right now, we must use all of our layers of protection, combined with the orders and restrictions, to slow the spread and keep people safe.”
