PRINCE GEORGE – Police have provided an update on the standoff that closed part of 11th avenue near the Parkwood Mall on Wednesday.

RCMP say they removed 19 people from a residence on the 1600 block of 11th Avenue, before entering to find weapons and ammunition.

Information was given to frontline officers of a possible robbery attempt with a firearm which prompted a callout to the North District Emergency Response Team and Prince George RCMP Police Dog Services to assist with managing the situation and removing everyone from the residence safely.

While Mounties were on scene, they found a handgun and a box of ammunition outside of the residence in plain sight.

Frontline officers were already conducting a concurrent Controlled Drugs and Sustances Act (CDSA) investigation into this residence. On the strength of that information, combined with the discovery of the handgun and ammunition, Mounties obtained a search warrant for the home.

Once in the home, members located and seized two loaded and prohibited firearms, two imitation firearms, illegal body armor, several boxes of ammunition, scales, a small amount of drugs, cash, various edged weapons and some stolen property.

“Police did not make any arrests at this time, pending results from lab analysis on the drugs and firearms located. This is typical of an investigation of this nature,” says Cst. Jennifer Cooper.

Police in Prince George say they are familiar with this residence, as it was already the subject of a recent CDSA search warrant executed by Prince George RCMP’s Downtown Safety Unit.

This investigation is in its beginning stages. Police may release more information as it becomes available.
