173 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health over the weekend

VICTORIA — Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there were 173 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health over the weekend, 1,475 provincially.

From Friday to Saturday there were 538 cases, from Saturday to Sunday another 507 and from Sunday to today, another 430 cases.

Here’s the provincial breakdown:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 287
  • Fraser Health: 736
  • Island Health: 59
  • Interior Health: 217
  • Northern Health: 173

Henry says 358 people are currently hospitalized, 72 of whom are in intensive or critical care.

Tragically, there have been 22 more deaths bringing the provincial death toll to 1,010. Five of those deaths were in northern B.C. bringing the death toll due to COVID-19 to 42.

The number of active cases has dropped from 6,118 cases to 5,220. A total of 58,107 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since the pandemic began while 87 per cent, or 50,541 people, have recovered.

Henry says 59,902 people have received their first dose of the vaccine in B.C.
