PRINCE GEORGE – Millions of people around the world had their eyes glued to their TV’s and electronic devices to get a glimpse into the swearing-in of the new president of the United States today.

Joe Biden took the oath of office at noon Wednesday to become the 46th president of the United States. He takes charge of a deeply divided nation.

Protests were expected in the state of Arizona – a former Republican stronghold that swung Democrat in November. Former CKPG reporter Hannah Tiede now works in Tucson and says the city was prepared for protests.

Former President Donald Trump skipped the festivities and headed to Florida earlier in the day and history was made, as Kamala Harris was sworn in as the nation’s first female vice-president.

Before Trump left the white house he hinted at a comeback, planting the seed at possibly taking another run at the presidency as he still has his supporters.

Trump is the first president since Andrew Johnson in 1869 not to attend the inauguration of his successor.
