PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George Fire Rescue were dispatched to a fire at Southridge Estates, a condo complex across the street from Southridge Elementary School in College Heights this afternoon.

It broke out at approximately 4:40 p.m. with 20 firefighters attending the scene. The condos are located on the 7200 block of Southridge Avenue.

Assistant Fire Chief Dan Pears says crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a condo unit at the rear of the building and extending into a second unit and the roof structure.

“Crews knocked down the exterior fire on the back deck, pressurized the building and attacked the fire from the interior. Using piercing nozzles into the ceiling and thermal imaging cameras got the fire under control in the roof structure and extinguished the fire.”

He says the blaze took roughly three hours to put out estimates damages at approximately $200,000. There were no injuries.

The fire is considered accidental in nature.
