SMITHERS — The NDP MP for Northwest BC is sounding the alarm because the future of the oil tanker moratorium on BC’s North Coast will be put to a vote next week in Ottawa.

In a virtual town hall this week, Taylor Bachrach told participants that Conservative Bill C-229 would repeal the North Coast tanker moratorium.

Debate on the second reading of Bill C-229, introduced by Conservative MP James Cumming, wraps up this week.

Bachrach says over 100 residents around the region took part in the town hall and over 500 people have signed an online petition expressing their support for the moratorium.
