SMITHERS — The MP from Northwest B.C. is celebrating after a vote to uphold the oil tanker moratorium.

Today (Feb.3) the House of Commons voted to reject Bill C-229, which sought to repeal the oil tanker moratorium act on B.C.’s North Coast. The bill was brought forward by the Conservative Party.

The bill was defeated by a vote of 208-118. Skeena-Bulkley Valley NDP MP Taylor Bachrach says the vote reflects a growing awareness in Ottawa on how important these protections are for communities along B.C.’s North Coast.
