PRINCE GEORGE – The City of Prince George is seeking public input that will inform actions aimed at reducing poverty and increasing understanding of how poverty affects the whole community.

“There are key members of our community who are at greater risk than others. Youth, seniors, Indigenous peoples, single-parent families, those experiencing mental health and addictions issue,” says Murry Krause who Chairs the Select Committee on Poverty Reduction. “And it is their feedback, and the feedback of agencies and advocates who support them, that we are diligently seeking as part of this public engagement process.”

Participation in the survey will help the City to prioritize recommendations for action and advocacy aimed at reducing poverty that has been drafted by the City’s Select Committee on Poverty Reduction.

The Select Committee was created to make recommendations to Mayor and Council about how Prince George can support the implementation of TogetherBC, the Province’s poverty reduction strategy, which aims to reduce overall poverty in B.C. by 25% and child poverty by 50% by 2024.

All residents are welcome to fill out the City’s Poverty Reduction survey, which is available at the City’s public engagement hub at www.princegeorge.ca/getinvolved until March 12.

Starting next week, the City will be working with community partners and agencies, of which there are more than 40, to obtain feedback from diverse groups of residents, especially those with lived experience of poverty.

In order to ensure accessibility and inclusion, paper surveys and phone calls will be available for those who may not be able to fill out the survey online at www.princegeorge.ca/getinvolved.
