QUESNEL — A 31-year-old man from Surrey is in police custody following a domestic disturbance and firearm seizure near Quesnel.

Sgt. Richard Weseen says it all started at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday night when police responded to a 9-1-1 domestic dispute involving a firearm on Graham Road.

Weseen says police responded to a report of a man who allegedly pointed a handgun at a female during a domestic dispute.

“Prior to the police arriving on scene, the man attempted to leave in a vehicle but lost control and went into the ditch a short distance away,” he says. “During a search of the area, the suspect was located hiding in a chicken coop. He was taken into custody without issue.”

Weseen says a search of the area, including the assistance of RCMP Dog Services, yielded a 9 mm handgun, drugs and $4710 in cash.

“The drugs are suspected to be over 250 grams of methamphetamine, 100 grams of meth mixed with fentanyl, and 23 grams of crack cocaine.”

He adds domestic disturbances are unpredictable and have the potential for extreme violence.

“It is fortunate that no one was injured during this incident as a firearm was produced and there were children in the home at the time.”

Weseen says Julian Wade Page has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a firearm while prohibited. Further charges are pending.

Page was remanded into custody and his next court appearance is Feb.18.
