UNBC Assistant Prof using Twitter to recognize Black Canadian academics

PRINCE GEORGE – February is not just another month for Nathan Andrews.

The Assistant Professor at the Department of Global & International Studies at UNBC is celebrating Black History Month over Twitter.

Andrews says the month means a lot to him, and although we are making encouraging progress in his eyes, Black History Month is a great chance to shine a bright spotlight on Black Canadians.

And that’s exactly what he’s doing.

Using Twitter, Andrews is recognizing Black Canadian academics across the country who are teaching and contributing to the positive change in our community.

Mentions go as far as Atlantic Canada, and Ontario including York and Queen’s, and also right here in Prince George at UNBC.

Andrews says the progress being made with the Black Lives Matter rallies and protests in the city have been very encouraging to see, and says the future could be bright but in the meantime, more work needs to be done.

Andrews was born and raised in Ghana, before moving to Canada to get his Masters Degree at Brock University and later coming west to get his PhD at the University of Alberta.

Andrews is currently on leave from UNBC until April, but teaches a number of courses within the Department of Global & International Studies at UNBC.
