FRASER LAKE — One person is dead and another seriously injured following a head-on collision on Highway 16, east of Fraser Lake.

RCMP Traffic Services say it happened Monday night at approximately 5:30 p.m. near the Dry William Lake rest stop.

An investigation revealed that a westbound pickup truck was passing a logging ruck using the passing lane but ran out of room, causing the pickup truck to enter into the oncoming lane where it collided head-on with an eastbound passenger car.

“The lone drivers of each vehicle were transported to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the passenger car, a man in his forties from the Lower Mainland, subsequently died from his injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, a 20-year-old man from Alberta, remains in hospital,” says Cpl. Mike Halskov.

He says Prince George Regional Traffic Services has taken over the investigation and would like to speak with the driver of the empty, westbound logging truck which had stopped, but departed the scene before police could speak with the driver.
