Province seeks variety of professionals to aid immunization efforts

PRINCE GEORGE – There are few details to exactly how many healthcare professionals will be needed for mass immunizations in the months ahead.

Dr. Bonnie Henry would not confirm nor deny the report of a mass immunization setting planned in Fraser Health would need roughly 500 healthcare professionals a day.

There are no details on large settings for Prince George and Northern BC and what that could look like.

Gisele Therien has been an RN for 40 years and thinks if the large-scale public clinics can be done the same way as what was done for frontline workers, it could work, but of course, she says in a much larger scale.

“I think it would be helpful as long as they have the training, and I think the quicker the better,” says Therien.

Those mass settings are not planned until April when the province is expected to move into phase three of immunization delivery.

Until then, 400,000 of those 80+ and Indigenous seniors aged 65+ among other groups will get their shots in smaller settings intentionally planned to make it easier and less intimidating.

But to help with the upcoming increase in vaccine delivery expected in April, the province is asking a number of healthcare professionals to help.

Those include retired RN’s, Podiatrists, Dentists, to Dental Hygienists, all of that allowed in a Provincial Health Order which came down on February 23rd.

Those the province is looking to recruit those in the following professions:

And although it’s been over a week, there are still few details on what to expect despite the period of mass vaccinations growing closer with every day.
