Record number of COVID-19 cases announced for B.C.

VANCOUVER — Provincial Health Minister Dr. Bonnie Henry announced a record high number of COVID-19 cases today (April 8).

Henry said there have been 1,293 new cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in B.C. since the pandemic began to 108,278. Of those, 97,462 people have recovered.

Here’s the regional breakdown of new cases:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 448
  • Fraser Health: 645
  • Island Health: 69
  • Interior Health: 80
  • Northern Health: 51

Henry said there are 9,184 active cases of the virus, 336 people are hospitalized, 101 of whom are in intensive or critical care.

Sadly, there have been two additional deaths bringing the death toll in B.C. to 1,493.

Henry said 995,001 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have now been administered in B.C.
