Update: Two dead and another seriously injured in two-vehicle crash north of Hixon

HIXON —Update: Prince George RCMP say two people are dead and another seriously injured following this morning’s two-vehicle crash north of Hixon.

“Officers and other emergency services arrived on scene and found that there had been a head on collision between a car and a mid-size sport utility vehicle,” says Cpl. Sonja Blom.

“Two people have died as a result of the collision. Another person, who sustained serious injuries, has been transported to hospital.”

She says speed is believed to be a factor in the collision.

The highway has opened to single lane alternating traffic.

Earlier: Drive BC says the highway is expected to reopen at 5 p.m. tonight however a detour is available at Widdis Road on the north side and Colebank Road on the south side. Someone on scene says it’s a very rough road and very slick with mud though.

Earlier: The Prince George RCMP say the crash has closed Highway 97 in both directions.

Cpl. Sonja Blom says emergency services are currently on scene and notes the highway is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.

Earlier: Motorists would do well to avoid Highway 97 South.

This as emergency crews respond to a two-vehicle crash just north of Colebank Road near Hixon.

Crews are on route. The crash occurred just after 9 this morning and motorists can expect traffic delays.
