853 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C.

VICTORIA — The provincial government announced another 874 new cases of COVID-19 in British Columbia today (April 29).

“There are 7,996 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 11,628 people under public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases,” says Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

Here’s the regional breakdown of cases over the past day:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 181
  • Fraser Health: 574
  • Island Health: 30
  • Interior Health: 43
  • Northern Health: 25

A total of 503 people are hospitalized due to the virus, 178 of whom are in critical or intensive care.

Sadly one additional death bringing B.C.’s death toll to 1,577.

A total of 1,749,375 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have now been administered in B.C.
