Still no clarity for lack of COVID-19 data in Northern B.C. compared to rest of province

PRINCE GEORGE – BC Health Officials did not expand on why a report from the BC CDC does not offer any clarity for Northern BC.

The report released shows case and immunization data offered for the Lower Mainland and parts of the Okanagan is not offered in Northern Health.

Leader of the Opposition and local MLA Shirley Bond said she thinks the province can do better.

“We have said, and we have been calling on the government to ensure that as much data as possible is released,” said Bond. “And what did we discover? That in fact there was more data that could be made available and it wasn’t.”

Bond noted having more data for people to access helps them do the right things, and understand why the guidelines are important.

BC Health Officials did not take our question during their media briefing on Thursday but made a general comment about how data is vital.

BC’s Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry said cases in smaller communities may fluctuate, but it offers a good idea to know how communities are doing in terms of cases, and immunizations.

CKPG News has reached out to the province for further comment.
