PRINCE GEORGE–The Huble Homestead Historic Site had its opening day for the season on saturday and it’s already seeing families flock in to enjoy what it has to offer. Workers spent a lot time and effort to make this year’s opening run smoothly.

“We’re always excited to be open. We’re obviously a seasonal attraction so we’re open from victoria day to thanksgiving and so you know this is a culmination of building work and two weeks of really fast pace work so it’s always a bit of a relief to be open and we’re just excite to be welcoming visitors again for another summer.” said Crystal Leason, Executive Director of Huble Homestead

Leason says this year aside from public events, families can expect lots of activities offered at the site. Including renting out games, guided tours, treasure hunts, and special programming classes where visitors can learn to create things like butter or ice cream. She says that while this year there might not be as many visitors due to covid, she thinks people will be more open to exploring locally.

“Last year our visitation was really down mostly because the bulk of of our visitors are those that come on event days and school children, of course with schools closing, we didn’t have kids and we didn’t have public events so this year i think we’ll see more people than we did last year. Especially now that people are a little bit more comfortable with exploring their community.” said Leason.

For visitors like Rachelle Munchinsky, getting out to homestead was much needed.

“We’re excited to be here, doing an outdoor safe activity with our family and yeah the drive is short so it’s an easy family activity for the day.” said Munchinsky.

The homestead has a full schedule on their website of all its events planned for this season. All are welcome and admission is ran by donations.
