PRINCE GEORGE – Twenty-six years ago, Fin Donnelly swam over 1,400 kilometres down the Fraser River to bring awareness and promote sustainability.

His efforts were also the catalyst for river protection societies and an event to connect residents to watersheds.

On September 10th, 1995, Fin Donnelly swam to the banks of the Fraser River in Prince George after starting his swimming journey from the headwaters to promote sustainable living with the river.

In the wake of his swim down the Fraser, Donnelly created the Rivershed Society of BC. From June 19 to July 11, the Rivershed Society of BC will be hosting the Race the River event, where residents are encouraged to keep track of the distance Donnelly swam.

According to Fin Donnelly, there are still issues that still plague the river.

Fin Donnelly was elected the NDP MLA for Coquitlam-Burke Mountain in the 2020 provincial general election. He serves as the Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries and Aquaculture.
