PRINCE GEORGE – On Thursday, Cowessess First Nation in Saskatchewan announced that ground-penetrating radar had detected 715 unmarked graves at the Marieval site.

This is just weeks after radar had found what are believed to be the remains of 215 children at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.

Regional Chief of the British Columbia Assembly of First Nations Terry Teegee, says this is upsetting but this won’t be the last we hear of it.

“It needs to carry on and, you know some of these organizations and some of these institutes such as the Catholic Church and the many denominations, and, also the RCMP, they played a hand northwest Mounted Police played a hand in bringing our children to residential schools.”

Anyone experiencing pain or distress as a result of their residential school experience can access the 24-hour, toll-free, and confidential National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at 1-866-925-4419.
