PRINCE GEORGE – For three years, the Prince George Youth Baseball Association has been running their Elite Baseball Development Academy.

Over that span, the program has had an almost 100 per cent success rate of graduating players onto university programs.

The purpose of the PGYBA’s Elite Baseball Development Program is to train baseball players and have them grow as both athletes and individuals in order to reach their personal athletics goals.

Come the Fall, they will be offering a five-month Elite-level program.

From October to March, ballplayers will participate in on0field and off0field training sessions. The on-field sessions will take place three times a week at the Northern Sport Centre from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m. Off-field sessions will take place twice a week at College Heights Secondary School’s weight room.

Craig Horswell is one of the instructors for the program and brings with him a wealth of baseball knowledge and experience. He completed three years as the starting catcher for the Canadian Olympic Baseball Team and spent time with the Vancouver Grey Sox and Calgary Diamonds.

John Bourassa and Bobby Weightman will also be instructors over the five months. Bourassa will be the pitching instructor and Weightman will work with the infielders.

The cost for the program is $1,250 per player with payment plans available through PGYBA.
