TYH: Concussion Cards

PRINCE GEORGE – As Brain Injury Awareness Month in Canada winds down, activities are starting to fully ramp up back to normal for many following pauses due to COVID-19.

As those sporting activities get back up and running, the PG Brain Injury Group says it’s important to remember the signs of a concussion, and they can help with a concussion card.

The cards feature some things to look for if someone you know may have suffered a blow to the head.

The most common sport to get a concussion is hockey and more specifically boys aged 5 to 14, rugby the second most common for males.

The signs of a concussion can range from being subtle while being quite obvious at other times.

“They can even be delayed so you might not see those symptoms right away, and they’re across such a broad spectrum,” says Paul Zorzi, Case Manager at the PG Brain Injury Group. “They’re different for everybody, a head injury is a very unique experience, and some of those effects could be cognitive, they could be emotional, they could be physical.”

You can find the concussion cards online or get a paper copy by visiting the PG Brain Injury Group on 4th Avenue.
