PRINCE GEORGE – The province will be moving back to almost normal starting on Canada Day, as Step 3 of BC’s restart plan begins.

Changes are as follows starting July 1st:

Moving from Step 2 to Step 3 also includes a considerable change of restrictions around gatherings both indoor and outdoor.

The mandatory face mask restrictions will be lifted in the province for those with two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in favour of ‘recommended use only.

Health officials were clear in their messaging, just because the mandatory face mask mandate has been lifted for those with two doses, everyone will proceed at their own pace.

“I’m going to be wearing a mask if I’m with a group of people I do not know, if I’m on a bus, if I’m on a ferry, if I’m on an airplane ,” said Premier John Horgan. “Those recommendations are there for a reason.”

Crowds of thousands of people will be allowed to gather once again with some restrictions as fairs, concerts, and trade shows get the green light.

Casinos will also be allowed to open, along with nightclubs although the dance floor will have to wait, as some restrictions remain for that sector.

Travel will now be allowed across Canada for the first time since the pandemic began.

Almost 80% of British Columbians have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, a benchmark for the mass immunization efforts.

The Provincial State of Emergency is set to end on Canada Day after being in effect for more than 460 days.
