Evacuation order and alert expanded for Big Stick area, alert expanded for Flat Lake

KAMLOOPS — The evacuation order for the Big Stick area issued by the Cariboo Regional District was expanded Thursday (July 13) evening.

The order was initially issued July 10.

Due to immediate life danger from the North of Big Stick Lake Wildfire, members of the RCMP or other groups will be expediting this action.

The evacuation route is Highway 20 east to Williams Lake.

In addition, evacuation alerts for two more areas within the Big Stick region were issued by the Cariboo Regional District. It affects a combined 84 parcels of land covering 12,807 hectares.

As of publication, the North of Big Stick Lake Wildfire is measured at 4,000 hectares. Its suspected cause is unknown.

Elsewhere, the evacuation alert for the Flat Lake area was also expanded. It affects 93 parcels of land and covers 9,988 hectares.

As of publication, the West of Flat Lake Wildfire is measured at 2,033 hectares. Its suspected cause is lightning.
