PRINCE GEORGE — Cooler temperatures and some precipitation helped with firefighting efforts over the weekend in the Prince George Fire Centre.

Fire Information Officer Sharon Nickel says the “the PG Fire Centre saw a general reduction in fire activity and limited growth.” She says in the case of the Camsell Lake fire, it allowed crews the chance to build a guard around the fire. As a result, the evacuation order was reduced to an alert on Saturday.

As for other fires in the region, she says the Cutoff Creek fire remains out-of-control, and currently sits at 21,500 hectares. The Shesta Lake fires are both under control and the Punchaw fire is being held at 21 hectares.

“With fires moving to being held and/or under control, we’re able to deploy resources as they become available to the Cutoff and Grizzly Lake fires,” adds Nickel.
