Prince George Track and Field member ranks first in BC in multiple categories

PRINCE GEORGE – 35-year-old Brody Yoxall currently ranks first in B.C. in both the 100 and 200-metre sprint, as well as ranking sixth and third in Canada respectively in both categories, in the 35 to 39-year-old division.

“Hearing that is kind of cool,” says Yoxall. “Maybe now I’ll check out a meet, either in province or out of province and then just get back into that travelling schedule that I had once upon a time.”

However, what’s surprising about his surge to the top is that he ran track from the age of eight to eighteen, which was 17 years ago, as he just recently started back up again a couple of months ago.

The main reason why says Yoxall, “I have a bit of a fear of just being immobile as I continue to age. Track is keeping me pretty far away from that.”

For Yoxall, another reason why he’s continued after coming back is due in large part to how much he’s enjoyed his time with the Prince George Track and Field Club.

“It’s a pretty good tight community, of all ages too and it keeps me grounded.”

But maybe his biggest support and the main reason why he came back after such a long time was the words his fiance said to him.

“There was a point where I almost didn’t come out and then I just asked the fiance, should I give this a go, it’s been a while. She just looked at me and said, what do you have to lose? That was three months ago, so yeah, it’s been a pretty good story.”

For Yoxall, he also has a message to any other individuals who may share similar feelings.

“People should give it a chance if they’re thinking about it because I know that getting yourself to the gym and trying other classes can get kind of dull. Something as basic as running, the fulfillment you can get from it, just doing something so basic, but you can just see your progress. If people have thought about it before, they should definitely give it a shot. You have nothing to lose.”
