PRINCE GEORGE – The Adult recreational hockey players across Prince George are officially back in action as the Summer Hockey League has returned after a COVID hiatus.

For everyone involved it’s a blessing to get back on the ice, as things start to get back to normal.

“Well it was a bit of a difficult startup, but I think everyone is really enjoying the opportunity to play this summer and their feedback so far after a few games is really great,” says Al Hines, League Coordinator for the Prince George Summer Hockey League.

Although things are now getting back to normal, it wasn’t that easy for the league to get back up and running this year.

“We had a two or three-week window just to let people know that this was available to them and try and get them all registered, so that was a bit of a difficulty,” says Hines.

Despite how well this season has gone, it’s not quite the same as how pre-pandemic times were, as we all still live with a bit of uncertainty.

“If you go back to pre-covid times it’s a lot different, just being able to know that you can go into normal operations.”

However, it has still gone very well and the players are definitely excited to be back on the ice.

“Everyone is super excited,” says Carl Ewert, Custom Edge Cowboys player. “Nobody’s seen each other for over a year and it’s awesome to get back playing again. Just to be around the guys again, it’s an awesome feeling to be out there.”

“I think everybody is really excited this year,” says Brandon Sande, Custom Edge Cowboys player. “Last year it looked like things were going okay and then it got shut down pretty quick, which was pretty hard for some guys. Everyone likes getting back on the ice with their buddies.”
