Kick-off to capital fundraising campaign launched for an ECHO Ultrasound at St. John Hospital

To date Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation has secured a grant from the Mr. & Mrs. P.A. Woodwards Foundation who has supported the region and this project with a $100,000 grant.

“This is a very generous start to get this worthwhile campaign underway.” Said Judy Neiser, CEO for Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation. “We are grateful to the Woodward Family for their generous gift and recognizing that even though Vanderhoof is only one hour away, that travel time is crucial in an emergency situation and that bringing care closer to home is always the best solution.”

When approached to support the fundraising campaign Integris Credit Union was quick to come on board and at a local level to champion the fundraising efforts in honour of Rosalie Nichiporuk, someone near and dear to so many areas of the community.

“Rosalie’s tireless contributions to the people of the Nechako Valley cannot be overstated,” says Alison Hoskins, CEO of Integris Credit Union. “She was the embodiment of leadership and service to the community and as such, the Integris Community Foundation is both honoured and delighted to make a $50,000 donation in her name to this fundraising campaign.

“As a founding member of the Integris Community Foundation Committee and until her passing, Rosalie participated in every grant decision made by the Foundation – a cumulative total that surpassed $1,000,000 in the Spring of 2020. Today, we honour and celebrate Rosalie – a remarkable woman who enriched us all,” says Hoskins.

Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation and Integris Credit Union together support community enrichment in Vanderhoof and the surrounding area and are proud to collaborate to champion exceptional health outcomes through the generosity of donors for this campaign.

They are grateful to the Nichiporuk family for allowing them to honour Rosalie in this way. They hope everyone feels as they do, that the benefits of fundraising for an ECHO Ultrasound are good for the community and what is good for the community will be good for the region.

EPIQ Elite for general imaging is a new class of premium ultrasound featuring an uncompromised level of clinical performance, design and intelligence to meet the challenges of today’s most demanding practices.

“At St John Hospital, we receive requisitions from our local physicians for ultrasound including echocardiography but currently the 15-18 requisitions per month we receive for echocardiography must go to Prince George,” said James Simpson, Health Services Administrator.

“The result is that we are adding to the waitlist for echocardiography in Prince George and our patients must make the drive for this important diagnostic test. With the addition of this new ultrasound, we will avoid up to 200 trips into Prince George and that means 200 less requisitions for service will need to be delivered by an already very busy ultrasound department in UHNBC.”

“We are very excited to be able to support the delivery of safe, effective and quality care to the residents of the Omineca, right here in Vanderhoof at St John Hospital,” said Simpson.
