Jehovah’s Witness convention goes virtual. At PG’s loss
PRINCE GEORGE – For the second year in a row, the Jehovah’s Witnesses has opted to hold a virtual convention.
“The biggest motivation to go with a virtual convention again this year is safety, right? And being so conscious about being in large groups. And looking at things from a global perspective,” explains Max Correia, a spokesman with Jehovah’s Witness Canada.
Jehovah’s Witnesses have a long tradition of holding conventions in Prince George, dating back to 1964. In fact, since the first large gathering 57 years ago, 44 conventions have been held in the city, with an aggregate total attendance of 121,967. Traveling to, and staying in Prince George for these conventions was a highlight for delegates from across Northern BC. Each year, more than two thousand convention goers descend on the city for three days, staying in local hotels and eating in local restaurants. According to the Manager of Economic Development for the City, Mellissa Barcellos, the loss of that event is a major loss.
