VALEMOUNT — Officials are continuing to monitor the landslide adjacent to Swift Creek.

The Regional District of Fraser Fort-George says the landslide remains active and the public is advised to stay away from the area. The RDFFG says conditions in the area may change suddenly and are asking everyone in the area to exercise caution.

The evacuation alert was issued Saturday for approximately 40 properties on the Northeast side of Main Street beginning at William Road, and extending beyond the Swift Creek bridge to the end of Main Street in Electoral Area H of the Regional District.

The RDFFG notes that the Village of Valemount sources its water for the community water system through Swift Creek and that is important to be aware that this water source could be vulnerable to a slide. If you rely on the Village of Valemount water system, it is recommended that you consider alternative water sources in the event the water system is unavailable as a result of landslide activity.

As a result of the current conditions, the Village of Valemount is strengthening its water restrictions for all Village water customers and properties to Level 3 until further notice.

The Village says this is to help conserve water as a precautionary measure in response to the Swift Mountain Slide event. More information can be found at www.valemount.ca.

The public is also strongly cautioned to avoid the area and note that Trail #6 and all trails leading to Trail #6, along Swift Creek, to and from the Valemount Bike Park are closed.
