PRINCE GEORGE — A total of 10,000 lightning strikes over the past 24 hours sparked another 11 wildfires in the Prince George Fire Centre.

Fire Information Officer Sharon Nickel says most are small spot fires, the largest of which is a .2 hectare fire near Willow River. The PG Fire Centre says an initial attack crew has been sent out to address that fire. Along with those lightning strikes, came some much needed precipitation.

It’s the second consecutive day the Prince George Fire Centre experienced 11 new fire starts. There are now 72 active fires in our region, there are 303 currently burning provincially.

The outlook is for more unsettled weather today, which may include more lightning strikes.
