Swift Creek landslide evacuation alert rescinded
VALEMOUNT – The Village of Valemount and Regional District of Fraser-Fort George are rescinding the Swift Creek landslide evacuation alert.
The area of the landslide has been assessed by professional engineers who have advised there is no imminent risk to public safety and have recommended lifting the evacuation alert.
The alert was issued on July 31 for approximately 40 properties on the Northeast side of Main Street beginning at William Road, and extending beyond the Swift Creek bridge to the end of Main Street in Electoral Area H of the Regional District.
The landslide posed a risk to Swift Creek, which is the water source for the Village of Valemount. Monitoring of water levels in the creek is ongoing.
