BC Liberals call out NDP on medical exemptions for vaccine passports

Sep 2, 2021 | 4:17 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – The BC Liberals want to know what accommodations will be made for those with medical exemptions amidst growing calls from advocacy groups and similar exemptions being made in provinces such as Ontario. In a statement sent out this morning,

MLA Shirly Bond said this:

“The reality is, some people in our province cannot receive a vaccine for serious health and medical reasons. It doesn’t seem fair that these British Columbians, through no fault of their own, will be denied access to certain activities.”

According to MLA Stephanie Cadieux, who is the Opposition Critic for Gender Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion. says there is added concern for those with disabilities as well.

” Many of these individuals are people with disabilities who already experience isolation. They feel like they’re being told to stay home — that they don’t matter, While the NDP promises this proof of vaccination plan will be a short-term measure, we know that very little with COVID-19 has been straightforward or has gone as planned. People with disabilities have little faith this won’t turn into a long-term obstacle for them.”

The Official Opposition is also calling on the NDP to provide more clarity on what criteria they will use to determine the proof of the vaccination program is no longer needed.

CKPG reached out to both the Premier’s office as well as Minister Dix but did not receive a reply back from either office.

As of September 13th, people in B.C. will be required to have proof of their first vaccination followed by Oct. 24.
