PRINCE GEORGE – Back in 1972, the Prince George Spruce Kings began their hockey journey. When the puck gets dropped on the 2021-22 BC Hockey League season, it will mark 50 years of Spruce Kings hockey in the city, which will simultaneously be lined up with the 60th anniversary season of the BCHL.

In a media event held inside the Spruce Kings locker room at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena, the Spruce Kings unveiled their 50th Anniversary Logo.

In addition to the logo release, the Spruce Kings have unveiled four jerseys to be worn on “Decade Nights”, the featured games on the Spruce Kings Schedule that will honour the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s, and 2010’s.

According to General Manager Mike Hawes, a product of Prince George who grew up through the history of the franchise, the jerseys are direct flashbacks to the era in which they were worn. This includes the return of the sawblade logo on both the 90’s and 00’s jerseys. An additional jersey for the 1970s will be unveiled as part of the league’s 60th Anniversary Retro Night Series.

The Spruce Kings and Pattison Media also announced a 10-game play-by-play package on 99.3 REWIND Radio starting Saturday, October 9th when the Spruce Kings visit the West Kelowna Warriors. Nine other games will be spread out throughout the season, featuring 8 road contests and 1 home contest on Thursday, December 9th against the Cranbrook Bucks.

New merchandise was also revealed, including a line devoted to celebrating the team’s 50th anniversary. The team will also have a vintage line and a traditional Red and Blue line. Merchandise is already available through the team’s online shop.

The 50th Anniversary Season begins on Friday, October 8th, with the Spruce Kings Home Opener on Friday, October 15th against the Merritt Centennials. Season Tickets are still on sale, with returning Season Ticket Members having control of their seats until September 24th, 2021.
