104 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health and one more death

VICTORIA — There seems to be no end in sight to the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The provincial government announced 706 new cases of the virus today, including 104 in the Northern Health region.

There are now 5,844 active cases of the virus province-wide with 291 people in hospital, 134 of whom are in intensive care.

The new/active cases include:

* 203 new cases in Fraser Health
* Total active cases: 1,784

* 105 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health
* Total active cases: 1,051

* 213 new cases in Interior Health
* Total active cases: 1,504

* 104 new cases in Northern Health
* Total active cases: 857

* 81 new cases in Island Health
* Total active cases: 638

* no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada
* Total active cases: 10

In the past 24 hours, four new deaths have been reported, for an overall total of 1,877.

The new deaths include:

* Fraser Health: three

* Northern Health: one

As for vaccinations, 86.3% (3,998,779) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 78.8% (3,652,033) received their second dose.

In addition, 86.8% (3,755,686) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 79.7% (3,445,951) received their second dose.

From Sept. 8-14, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 76.1% of cases and from Sept. 1-14 they accounted for 86.4% of hospitalizations.
