Crews respond to log yard fire in Chetwynd

CHETWYND — Crews responded to a massive fire at West Fraser’s log yard in Chetwynd yesterday.

West Fraser says it started at around 2:30 p.m. and fire suppression efforts continue today.

The company says emergency procedures were activated once the fire broke out and say all employees are safe with no injuries.

Firefighters are on site and air support is being used to aid in extinguishing the fire, which is contained in the lumber yard.

West Fraser says the mill is not at risk and says the cause and an assessment of damages will occur once the fire is out.

North District RCMP say the fire was not suspicious in nature.
