PRINCE GEORGE – For the 30th year, women and children will be marching throughout downtown Prince George for the Take Back the Night movement on September 23rd at 6:30 pm.

“This year is our 30th annual march which is pretty special because last year we had to go online and this year we get to march in person,” said one of the Take Back the Night Coordinators, Loriann Armstrong.

The march is an event to honor the memory of women who did not survive violence and to celebrate those who have. Take Back the Night welcomes allies but the march is dedicated to a very specific demographic.

“The march is to be able to walk down our streets safely alone at night – we demand an end to violence against women and children. Everyone is welcome to the event however the event is for women [and children] to march. We ask that if there are men that they stay at the civic centre and welcome us back upon our return,” added Armstrong.

Since the first march in Prince George, back in 1992, community members have been coming together in support of this movement including sponsorships and help from local organizations and not for profits.

The night will start with some presentations at the civic center, after which the group will march towards the courthouse where they will hold a moment of silence. Organizers are encouraging people to bring their own signs and posters but there will be a few available for those who do not have one.
