PRINCE GEORGE – In back-to-back weekends, Cariboo Hockey will be making a considerable donation to the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) through the organization’s Pink in the Rink fundraiser.

At the first weekend, the Northern Capitals Female Midget Triple-A team started their 50/50 at $500 thanks to the generosity of Gary Young with Gary Young Agencies.

Northern Capitals 50/50 started at $500 thanks to the generosity of Gary Young with Gary Young Agencies. Representatives from CCS were in attendance and dropped the puck during a ceremonial faceoff.

That night, the 50/50 contributions to CCS was $620.

The Capitals lost their weekend series to the Fraser Valley Rush that weekend, losing 4-1 and 5-1 in the two games.

For the U18AAA game, the Cariboo Cougars had multiple sponsors kick start the 50/50. Art and Shawn Julian with Taba Group, out of Fort St James, gave $500 in honour of Shawn’s mother, Rita McKinnon who lost the fight with cancer. Taba also sponsored Cariboo’s Pink in the Rink jerseys.

Cariboo Alumni Brett Fudger and his family donated $500, which brought the Cats 50/50 up to $1,000.

U18 Head Coach Tyler Brough also added $200 in honour of his father Rick, who passed away this past summer to his battle with cancer. Tyler’s mother Brenda and daughter Kenndy did the puck-drop ahead of the game.

Cariboo split their weekend series with the Vancouver North West Hawks, winning the Saturday tilt 4-1 but dropping Sunday’s game 5-1.

In total, Cariboo was able to raise over $2,000 between the two weekends.

Cariboo Hockey will be handing over that money to the Canadian Cancer Society during a presentation scheduled for next week outside of Kin 1.
