PRINCE GEORGE – Willow River and communities beyond the Upper Fraser Road will soon be getting a new $10 million bridge.

Local officials believe it will open up growth and development for the area. The days are numbered of the sound of vehicle tires going over the grates on the Willow River bridge.

Plans are in the works to replace the current single-lane structure with a modern two-lane bridge. Located on the Upper Fraser Road, approximately 37 km northeast of Prince George.

The new bridge cost just over ten million dollars and was awarded to a local contractor. The original Willow River Bridge was built in 1957 and consisted of a wide single-lane timber bridge.

In March 2002 due to damage, the bridge was replaced with a temporary steel Acrow bridge that is now nearing the end of its serviceable life.

The new bridge has the potential to bring growth and development along the Upper Fraser road.

The improvements are designed to provide increased safety and mobility for residents and the travelling public.

The current bridge will be used as a detour to ensure safe and effective traffic movement during construction.
