The city’s newest parks lose trees to hungry beavers.
PRINCE GEORGE – A few trees were recently damaged at one of the city’s newest parks, but the guilty party wasn’t human. No, it was a common animal typically seen in the rivers and streams of our region.
Nechako Riverside Park has fallen victim to a resident beaver preparing for the winter season. The park opened a few years ago, and the city planted some trees, and recently the beavers have taken down around a dozen of them.
The two most common problems associated with beavers are flooding resulting from blocked structures such as culverts and damage caused to trees. Public or Private land, the animal and its home are protected by law.
