Brennan shuts doors on Giants in 1-0 Cougars’ win

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Cougars snapped their three-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over the Vancouver Giants on Tuesday night at the CN Centre.

Tyler Brennan picked up his second shutout of the season as he stopped 27 shots and was named the game’s first star. Brennan said post-game the shutout was extra special as he had a special cheering section.

“It always feels good to get the shutout, especially at home and with my family here watching,” said Brennan.

Connor Bowie scored the only goal in the game, on the power-play, three and a half minutes into the second. Bowie wired his wrist-shot post and in from the face-off circle. A much-needed power-play goal, as the Cougars had scored just once in the previous eight games with the man-advantage.

“We had everyone on board. We had great goaltending, we made smart plays with the puck, and our special teams were sharp. Very happy for the boys,” said Cougars’ General Manager & Head Coach Mark Lamb.

The Cougars only allowed seven shots in the third with them protecting a one-goal lead. The bench boss was thrilled with his team’s commitment.

“You have to have patience in every game as there’s so many ups and downs, commented Lamb. “We got into some penalty trouble in the second period, but we had a lot of guys laying down in front of shots. They were doing whatever they could and that’s what’s needed to win games like this.”

It was a heavy, hard-fought battle between the two B.C. Division rivals which featured two fights. Bowie fought Damien Palmieri a minute after his goal in the second period and late in the middle frame, Viliam Kmec dropped the mitts with Kaden Kohle.

Game Notes: In two starts against the Giants, Tyler Brennan owns a 1.02 goals-against average and has a .967 save percentage. He now has two shutouts in his last three starts. Craig Armstrong played his 100^th career regular season game on Tuesday.
