Group of downtown homeless encampment residents moved into indoor housing
PRINCE GEORGE- 14 occupants of the homeless encampment on Lower Patricia Boulevard, also known as ‘”Moccasin Flats”, have been moved into indoor supportive housing.
Earlier this week, City staff used heavy equipment to remove the empty structures to reduce the risk of fire. This comes after Prince George Fire Rescue responded to a fire structure at Moccasin Flats on Friday. The belongings of existing occupants have not been removed.
The City will be working with BC Housing to ensure the health and safety of PG’s local homeless population, and recently hired two outreach coordinators to support these efforts.
“The occupants who moved to housing all moved willingly and peacefully with totes containing their belongings,” said City outreach worker Patrick Zsombor. “I know each of these people by name and we have developed a good relationship. I am pleased they have now been provided with housing. We spoke with each of the occupants and they understood that any items left behind would be removed.”
