No gas rationing in Northern BC
PRINCE GEORGE – The Province has extended the gas rationing to all but Northern BC and the Interior until December 14th, as the Transmountain Pipeline needs more work to be reliably ship crude to the coast. But why does the rationing not extend to this region? There’s a reason for that.
“Fortunately here for us in Prince George and Vanderhoof, we get our gasoline right here in our own back yard,” explains Dan McTeague with Canadians for Affordable Energy. “The Prince George Husky refinery produces 15,000 barrels a day. It’s a small refinery. In fact, it’s the smallest refinery in Canada. But it’s more than enough for the BC Interior. We don’t have to go very far. We’re like a little mini-Edmonton if you will.”
McTeague says it may take longer to get that pipeline shored up than many expect, especially when there is another system moving through that region. But what this has highlighted is the significance of that pipeline to the daily movement of people.
