Poor lighting

Poor lighting shines a light on safety

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s been a tragic month for pedestrians crossing the Hart Highway. Local Mounties continue to investigate two pedestrian-involved accidents that happened in the same area.

Some people who live or work near the roadway would like the safety concerns addressed.

According to Bonnie Kerr, the owner of Madison Ave Fashions works meters away from Highway 97. According to Kerr, once the sun begins to set, it becomes dark quickly for a highway located within a city.

Kerr would like the city to take action and have more lighting installed along this corridor, though it’s actually a provincial jurisdiction.

The most recent pedestrian-involved collision occurred on Saturday just before 5:00 p.m., when a vehicle struck two pedestrians on the southbound lane of the Hart Highway, near Shady Lane.

On the morning of November 4th, a pedestrian was struck and killed near the intersection of Northwood Pulpmill Road and Highway 97

RCMP wants to remind the public to use marked crosswalks when crossing a street and to carry a flashlight or wear reflective clothing when walking during our dark winter hours.
