PRINCE GEORGE – A pair of UNBC Timberwolves have pushed their names to the top of the school’s record books when it comes to their history playing in Canada West.

Vova Pulzhnikov needed just three assists to pass Hames Agyeman for most in UNBC’s Canada West history. In Friday’s tilt against the undefeated UBC Thunderbirds, the Ukrainian guard tallied five. Agyeman, a former teammate of Pulzhnikov, held the record with 213 during his time in the Green and Gold, playing from 2015 to 2019.

Meanwhile, Prince George’s own Tyrell Laing needed just 10 points to pass Rhys Elliott for most in UNBC’s Canada West history. The Australian-born guard scored 934 in his time with the Timberwolves from 2014 to 2017.

Laing entered the game averaging 21.5 points per game, and while the TBirds bought a strong defensive strategy to limit the Prince George star’s impact on the game, he did manage to squeak out 10 points. The majority of his scoring was done from the foul line as he worked to break down a tough defence.

The Timberwolves have been members of Canada West since the 2012-13 season, joining the then-named Canadian Interuniversity Sport (now U Sports). Prior to then, the Timberwolves were members of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, primarily competing in the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PacWest). As a result, their all-time school records are split between the two governing bodies.

The Timberwolves were members of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), primarily competing in the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PacWest) until the 2011-12 season. In 2011, however, they were granted probationary membership for the 2012-2013 season by the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (Canada West) of the then-named Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

Jay Gladish holds the school’s all-time record for points scored with 1,178. Laing is currently 235 points away from tying that school record, averaging 17.3 points per game with 12 games remaining in the TWolves schedule this season.

Inderbir Gill holds the TWolves all-time record for assists with 319. Pulzhnikov is 99 assists away from tying that all-time school record.

The TWolves will be in Victoria Dec. 3-4 when they take on the Vikes. They will then not play again until the new year.

All statistics are as of November 30, 2021.
