PG Palliative Care Society branching out

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society is switching up its mandate and has many new ventures underway.

For instance, they created a labyrinth in the wooded area behind their offices. But it’s not a labyrinth in the traditional sense.

“Our intention in building the labyrinth in our wood lot is for people who are grieving,” explains Denise Torgerson, Grief Supporter. “They can walk with their grief into the centre and, perhaps, leave something of their burden there.”

They are also creating a program to help children who have lost loved one and is reaching out to similar organizations in the region to form a network. There is a former shed on the grounds that was used for the Grief and Grub for Guys program, but that had to halt because of the pandemic. But there are plans for that building.

“So we started thinking how to make a space for people, not just men but people, instrumental grievers can come ad do stuff. And hang out together because instrumental grievers like to do stuff. So, in that doing, that’s where the grief support happens and they start to support each other,” says Torgerson.

So if you’re feeling melancholy or blue by all means, you’re welcome to take a journey through the labyrinth anytime.
