Cougars make 11 selections in Prospects Draft

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Cougars are a young team, and the Western Hockey League’s Prospect Draft is the prime opportunity for teams to add youth to their squads.

On Thursday, the Cougars made 11 selections through eight rounds of the draft.

In the first round, with the 15th pick, Prince George opted to add to their blueline. Bob Simmonds, the Head of Scouting with the club, announced the selection of defenceman Tyson Buczkowski. The defender has been playing with the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA team.

The WHL Draft also saw three Prince George products get taken by other WHL clubs.

Miguel Marques was taken 10th overall by the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Marques is reportedly making his WHL debut this Friday when the Hurricanes host the Red Deer Rebels.

Rebman Smyth was picked by the Saskatoon Blades in the third round (62nd overall).

And finally, Kenyon McIsaac was selected by the Everett Silvertups out of the Burnaby Winter Club U16 Prep team in the ninth round, 190th overall.

To top it off, the Everett Silvertips scooped up Kenyon McIsaac of the Burnaby Winter Club U-16 prep team in the ninth round (190th overall)

Diego Johnson of Fort Saint James heard his name called in the sixth round by the Seattle Thunderbirds (120th overall).
