Upcoming Prince George events receive nearly $900,000
PRINCE GEORGE- Numerous upcoming local events are receiving provincial funding as part of the one time Fairs, Festivals and Events Recovery Fund grant. The provincial government is providing nearly $30-million to event organizers across the province. $882,795 is being distributed to upcoming events in Prince George. Each grant recipient could apply for up to $250,000, or 20% of the total event budget until October 21.
The following Prince George events are receiving funding:
- 2022 Canadian Biathlon Championships – 30,235
- 2022 Cross Country Skiing BC Championships – $ 7,401
- 2022 Downtown Winterfest – $ 7,440
- 2022 World Women’s Curling Championship – $ 250,000
- 37eme Festival d’Hiver FrancoFUN Winter Festival – $ 10,000
- BC Summer Games – $ 100,000
- British Columbia Northern Exhibition – $ 64,740
- Coldsnap – The Prince George Winter Music Festival – $ 30,000
- Downtown Summerfest – $ 20,610
- Northern FanCon – $ 43,094
- Prince George Symphony Orchestra 2021-22 Concert Season – $ 131,665
- The Best Damn Music Festival – $ 157,000
- Theatre Outside – $ 30,610
680 events received a portion of this funding, 43 of them are in Northern BC. All recipients needed to demonstrate the economic and social benefits to their community. The funding can be used for operational costs, health and safety measures, venue rental, marketing, wages, and promotion.
