NORTHERN BC- Provincial Health officials are urging residents to avoid non-essential travel. This comes after the federal government asked Canadians to cancel any planned non essential trips abroad as the Omicron COVID-19 variant continues to circulate.

“If it’s not necessary, don’t go,” stated Health Minister Adrian Dix.

In the last couple of days, the province has seen a rise in daily COVID-19 case counts. Dix is attributing some of these cases to informal social gatherings.

Additionally, Premier John Horgan commented on the federal government’s travel advisory. He supports the advice, and says now is not the time to take any chances as the Omicron variant continues to circulate.
