PRINCE GEORGE — A big haul for this year’s United Way Tree of Lights campaign.

Organizers say it passed its fundraising target, raising $52,546.

Proceeds will go towards supporting social service programming in Prince George.

“The love and support that the people of Prince George have shown for each other is inspiring and incredibly heartwarming,” reads a news release. “They answered the call and generously donated to help us reach this year’s ambitious goal.”

The money will come in handy as the United Way says they’ve seen “an unprecedented increase in the need in the non-profit sector.”

“The socio-economic effects of the prolonged pandemic have been worse for our vulnerable friends and neighbours. The housing issues, addictions, senior isolation, mental health issues, and poverty, to name a few, have grown to a level not seen before. The funds raised through the United Way Tree of Lights campaign will go towards addressing some of the most pressing issues mentioned above that the Prince George community faces.”
