Extreme cold weather gift wrapped for us for Christmas

PRINCE GEORGE – Usually, we don’t see a cold snap till mid-January, early February…however, it looks like Mother Nature wanted to gift us early this year.

“Extremely cold temperatures are on the way for the Prince George area, please be mindful of that if you’re planning on heading outside,” said Dylana Kneeshaw, from the CKPG weather station “If you are caught unprepared there is a high risk of frostbite. That extreme cold warning issued by Environment Canada, expect it to last between Friday, well into Tuesday.”

Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth says everyone should be prepared as unseasonably cold temperatures will blanket B-C through to the New Year.

Environment Canada has issued weather statements for the south coast while an Arctic outflow warning covers the inner north coast as frigid air moves south.

Farnworth says the province has responded to the needs of the most vulnerable by raising the number of shelter spaces by 25 percent over last year.

The weather office says the system will bring heavy snow to some areas along with the sub-zero temperatures and there’s a good chance many south coast communities will see a rare white Christmas.
